What a Pty Ltd actually gets you
A private company — "(Pty) Ltd" — is the standard vehicle for a business that expects to make a profit and pay it out to its owners. It is a separate legal person from you: it signs contracts, holds its own bank account, and owns its own assets. That separation is the reason banks, corporates, and government buyers ask for a registration number before they will trade with you.
Registration is one filing with CIPC. It is not a licence to trade in a particular sector, and a CoR14.3 says nothing about whether you are tax compliant, B-BBEE compliant, or graded by a sector regulator. Those are separate jobs, listed further down.
Who should file this themselves
If every director holds a South African ID, you want a standard short-form MOI, and you have a free morning, you do not need us. Filing on CIPC's own portal is lawful and cheaper, and we set out the trade-off honestly on BizPortal vs CIPC Partners.
Hire us when one of these is true:
- A director holds a passport rather than an SA ID. The simplified ID-check path cannot process that application — see registering with foreign nationals.
- You want share certificates and beneficial ownership settled at incorporation rather than chased later.
- You would rather hand over the document prep and have somebody track the filing.
What to have ready
- A South African ID or passport for every director
- A home or business address in South Africa
- Up to four name preferences, in order of preference
- A plain description of what the business does
The address becomes the company's registered address on the CIPC record. Use one where post actually reaches you, not a marketing address.
After you order
You complete the guided form, pay, and land in your order workspace. From there you upload supporting documents against a checklist, and follow status changes as we prepare and lodge the filing. Completed documents come back into the same workspace. Timing depends on CIPC processing, which varies — the workspace is the honest answer to "where is my application", not an estimate we invented.
Not included in the price
- A bank account. Banks run their own KYC on their own timeline.
- Annual returns. They begin at your first anniversary — we file those separately.
- VAT and payroll registrations. Turnover and hiring trigger those, not incorporation. See SARS tax registration.
- Sector approvals such as CIDB grading or COIDA.
Registration, name reservation, or the filing workspace?
Three URLs that look similar and are not:
- This page describes the Pty Ltd product and what it includes.
- Name reservations is for holding a name when you are not ready to incorporate. Registration packages already include the name work, so do not buy both.
- Register your company is the multi-step filing workspace when you want to start now.
Prices for the SA-citizen, non-SA-citizen, and Premium variants live on packages. We keep the numbers in one place so they cannot drift.
