Tell us what you need
The appointment that unlocks a SARS profile
SARS will not let anybody act for a company — file a return, request a compliance PIN, answer a query — until a registered representative is recorded against it and verified. Until then a company can hold a perfectly valid income tax number and be unable to do anything with it.
This is not the same service as registering the company for tax. That one gets the company onto the tax types it needs. This one records the human being SARS will deal with.
Why it stalls so many companies
The requirement is invisible until you hit it, and you usually hit it under time pressure: a tender wants a tax compliance PIN this week, or a bank has asked for something and eFiling will not let you in. Verification needs supporting documents and, depending on the case, an appointment. None of that compresses well against a deadline.
The fix is unglamorous. Do it in the first weeks after incorporation, while nothing is riding on it.
Appointing us instead of a director
Normally the representative is a director. Appointing us makes sense when:
- No director is comfortable running eFiling, or is in the country to attend an appointment
- Directors are foreign nationals whose own tax affairs sit elsewhere, while the company still needs a South African SARS contact
- You would rather correspondence and submissions landed with somebody who handles them daily
Foreign directors still need the company itself on SARS eFiling, wherever they are personally tax resident.
What we need
Company name, registration number, and the full name of the person being appointed. The additional-details box is for the state of any existing eFiling profile: whether one exists, whether anyone can still log into it, and whether a previous representative has left. That last case is common after a resignation and it changes what has to happen first — file director changes alongside it if the departure is also a board change.
What you get
Written confirmation of the appointment, handling of the eFiling profile, and management of tax submissions and correspondence from that point on.
What it is not
An appointment is a channel, not a tax opinion and not accounting. Somebody still has to prepare the numbers, and that is usually the largest year-one cost a new company carries. No registration fee covers it, ours included.
