What the CSD is for
The Central Supplier Database is the register government departments and public entities draw from when they buy. If you are not on it, most public-sector buyers cannot pay you even when they want to, because their procurement systems look you up there.
This service creates a new CSD profile or updates an existing one, verifies the tax, bank, and entity details the profile hangs on, and returns the CSD Summary Report.
Why profiles fail verification
A CSD profile is not a form you fill in and forget. It is a set of details checked against other authorities, and it fails when they disagree:
- Entity details are checked against the CIPC record, so the company name and registration number have to match it
- Bank details are verified against the entity, and an account in a director's personal name is a common cause of failure
- Tax compliance is verified against SARS, which is where most rejections happen
Plan for that last point. A CSD profile without a working tax compliance status is not a tender-ready profile — see tax clearance certificate if yours is not in place yet.
Updating an existing profile
The form asks whether this is new or an update, because stale profiles cause as much trouble as missing ones. Bank details change, directors leave, addresses move. A profile that no longer matches the CIPC record can fail verification quietly, and you find out when a bid is disqualified.
If you have recently filed director changes or shareholder changes, update CSD too.
Do not buy this twice
If you are a construction firm heading for a contractor grade, CIDB Grade 1 registration already includes the CSD listing and MAAA number as part of the process. Order that one and you get both. Ordering both separately gets you a single CSD profile and a duplicated fee.
CSD is not a scorecard
Being on the database says you exist, that your details check out, and that your tax status is verifiable. It does not score you. Preference points on a tender come from a B-BBEE affidavit or certificate, and sector eligibility comes from the relevant regulator, not from CSD.
What we need
Company name, registration number, and whether you want a new registration or an update. Banking and tax details are collected in your order workspace after payment rather than on the public form.
After the profile exists
CSD registration is not a one-off. The profile carries a supplier (MAAA) number and a Summary Report that buyers pull, and both go stale the moment your tax status lapses or your company details change. Treat it like the annual return: something that needs a look once a year, not something you did once and forgot.
